Young & Diamond Rock The Free World Plus Steve Winwood Tours & Rock Tree Lights Up

Gigly

By Clare Goggin

Neil Young and Neil Diamond share little in common aside from the fact that they both sing and both their parents named them Neil. But where Young is hippie, anti-corporate rock, Diamond is upbeat, love-song rock. This Fall, they share another common ground: North America. Both are on tour now through Canada and the US.

Neil Young toured Europe earlier this year before bringing the show back to the Western Hemisphere. As of today, he has nine shows left on his North American schedule that will take him through Ontario, including two nights at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, and back to the states, stopping at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on December 12 and Madison Square Garden in New York City for two nights (December 15 & 16) before he leaves for nine shows in Australia and New Zealand.

Neil Diamond, on the other hand, only has North American venues left on his schedule. The singer will play Toronto's Air Canada Centre tonight and tomorrow before rolling back into the US. His stateside stops include the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts on December 6, the Pepsi Center in Denver on December 17 and the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on January 2, 2009.

Eat It

Raw foodism is a dietary movement that has gained some popularity in the last twenty years or so. A belief that maintaining a diet made up of 75% raw foods will boost your health has inspired several restaurants to add menu items or to rely entirely on a raw food menu.

Planet Raw in Santa Monica, California features a full raw and vegan menu and will be opening a new location in Walnut Creek, California in the new year. From pumpkin tortellini to cold cereal, patrons can choose several delicious dishes and some are even liquitarian-friendly. Other restaurants featuring vegan, gluten-free, raw menus include Rawbert's in Beverly, Massachusetts (which recently changed its name from Organic Garden Cafe) and Cousin's Incredible Vitality in Chicago, Illinois.

Raw food can also be found in other restaurants but organic restaurants are usually the best bets for trying your hand at raw food. Karyn's Fresh Corner also in Chicago carries some delicious organic raw foods and Mana Foods in Maui, Hawaii also offers raw options to their customers.

Ronald McDOnald balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving ParadeThe Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade festivities kick-off the day before Thanksgiving at the Inflation Party where they drive in a massive tanker trunk full of helium and turn the flattened pools of fabric on the street into the familiar balloons you see in the parade. Although, it still looks a little weird to see Snoopy and Ronald McDonald (in the video below) laying down in the middle of the street. (Ronald looks angry while Snoop looks like he's napping.)

There's nothing like having Thanksgiving dinner in a hotel boardroom. When I sit down tomorrow afternoon (because apparently Thanksgiving "dinner" is always eaten by 2PM, virtually guaranteeing that you'll be starving again by real dinnertime), it will be in a giant hotel restaurant surrounded not just by family but by everyone else's nearest and dearest.
